Greensteps launches the first platform for supplying eco-friendly advice, products and services for homeowners and developers Greensteps home page image

17th November 2006

Greensteps, a radically innovative new company whose aim is to provide the 'whole story' regarding the total environmental impact and cost of household materials and appliances, is launching its groundbreaking new web site. Greensteps gives independent advice on household issues, analyses products and supplies endorsed goods and services at market-beating prices.

Consumers have traditionally been given just the face-value energy ratings of household products. However, the emissions caused by consuming energy with household appliances are only the tip of the iceberg. Greensteps provides information and data about the environmental impact of each product from the cradle to the grave; about the cost benefits to the consumer; and how to get the best deals.

Greensteps analyses the performance of each product or service under six key metrics: Energy, Water, Health & Wellbeing, Building Materials, Waste and Transport. This ensures that a buyer really knows the whole environmental footprint; how eco-friendly it is to produce, install, run (or have nearby), and dispose of each product. This includes the benefits to health and budget of buying more eco-friendly merchandise.

Ben Nickell, Managing Director of Greensteps said: "Greensteps is the first consumer focussed information and product supplier to provide clear and concise data on the entire environmental footprint of everyday housing materials and appliances. The new information will change people's perception of what really makes something eco-friendly and ultimately enable them to make much better informed buying decisions. We have also shown that this does not come at the price of decreased comfort or increased costs. The products and services that we endorse are cost efficient and they maintain or improve standards of living."

Nickell also mentions "Greensteps is so committed to restoring the ecological balance that a percentage of its profits will be invested in tree planting schemes to offset the ecological impact of Greensteps itself."
